2006-09-16 Day trip to the Upstate of South Carolina. Not much besides Corallorhiza odontorhiza was in bloom. However, the foliage of Goodyera pubescens is at its peak. It will remain that way until mid-summer next year when the plants send up flower stems, once again. If there is any doubt about Corallorhiza odontorhiza being self-pollinating, there is a photo below of a fresh flower stem still in bud with swolen ovaries! Spiranthes species are still in tight bud, so it will be weeks before they are at their peak.
