Royal Photographer and Cousin to The Queen,
Died Today
The following is advice he gave to entrants into a portrait competition.

• Lighten up! Good light is the key to a great photograph. Make sure that the light source is behind you if you want to present a crisp picture of what’s in front of you; or if you’re feeling adventurous play around with your flash settings for some special effects. The midday sunshine can be a mixed blessing – to avoid messing around with the camera’s white balance look for dappled shade for best results.

• Chill Out! Relax your subjects and try to take candids, the result will be much more natural and better capture the atmosphere of the occasion. Remember, the more relaxed that you are the more comfortable your subjects will feel.

• Get Snap Happy! Take lots of photographs – it will help to relax your subjects and help you to get the shot that really works.

• Be Adventurous! There are no hard and fast rules to taking a good picture – some of the best photographs result from experimental shots. So forget the rule book, have a play with the camera settings and your image composition and see what you get!
