Probably built from stones garnered from Hadrians wall, the Vicar's Pele was, as the name suggests, the defended house of the Vicar of Corbridge from its construction in the mid 14th century and into the 15th century. At some point the tower fell into ruin - the roof was reported as in poor condition in 1663 - and was restored with gabled roof to the orders of the 7th Duke of Northumberland in 1910.
