Soft focus for the sake of soft focus is often a cop-out, technique used for the sake of the technique itself. But in this case, the soft focus is the point of the picture. Tenderness is all about softness -- I love the way the flesh of mother envelopes the flesh of the child, and the tender way the child holds its rattle. The diagonal patterns running through the image hold it all together. Exquisite, Jim.
