Bakhor Square... Beyond the mega crowded and busy market, the significance of this place must be the Jokhang Monastery... The monastery that Princess Wencheng from China built...
What's most unfortunate, was that back during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, apart from the destruction of many monasteries in Tibet, thousands of Tibetans were killed on the Bakhor Square... A sight that must have been most horrendous... A sight that must never be repeated...
Thousands of pilgrims traverse around the monastery, the Bakhor kora, daily... quite a sight...
Somewhere nearby, I ventured to the Sangay Tungu (aka Tiger Hill)... an area which is not described in the Lonely Planet... an area where only the local Tibetans go to pray... a sensitive area which has not been identified as a tourist attraction.. too bad I couldn't understand the Tibetan language... otherwise I'd know what the Tibetans were praying for...
