The technology of digital photography is approaching maturity. After certain price point, the law of diminishing returns kicks in. I have seen amazing pictures taken by DSLR of almost all the major brands with decent lenses attached (by decent I mean > 300$ ). Hence, the inability to unleash the full potential of Canon 10D lies in me not the my lenses. It is important to be bluntly honest with oneself. 99% percent of the photos I shot end up being viewed on computer screen. And I am not shame to confess I am tired of lugging around a bagful of heavy lenses while traveling. The decision to switch is based on the fact Minolta 7D offers me a simpler and cheaper solution of what I intend to do for the time being.

Jiang,
If I were you, I'd like to play more on lens rather than cheap camera bodies.
I am sorry that you swift system; your photos from Canon look good, however, you haven't shown all the potentials of 10D.
Wei likes portrait, why not try some portrait lens like canon 85 1.2L (strongly suggested), 200 1.8L...
They are superb! especially at the low light conditions!

Minolta 7D is a technologically superior camera than Canon 10/20/30D.

I enjoy every bit of it. Particularly considered the incredible deal I got from Adaroma.

My only pet peeve is its LCD looks somewhat dull.

Sony has announced they will release their first DSLR (compatible with M lens) this fall. Since I am not brand loyal consumer, Minolta’s fate doesn’t concern me that much. If down the line, I feel the need to upgrade, I will simply sell it and go for whatever I deem having the best bang for the buck at the moment.

People always say it is costly to switch system.

Well, the truth is quality lens holds its value very well. You will lose very little money if anything at all when you sell a lens less than 2 years old. Of course the premise is you take good care of them and keep them in excellent condition. The camera body does depreciate fast. But with the advance in technology, it is possible to get more for less so long as you are not obsessive with the new and latest.

Hi Jiang
I've noticed your pictures for a while, I think Canon is very good and you have some good canon lens, don't you?
I can't understand why you change?
It costs a lot to change a system and M may not exceed Canon.
I also want to remind you that M has been sold to Sony, Sony may not continue to develop M system
Could you tell the reason?

I've sold my whole set of Canon system. hehe. I am now a proud of owner of Minolta camera.
