I'm the brother of Christine Eme (see below) and can still taste the dinner rolls my grandmother served at the Lakeside Hotel. I also remember fishing for bluegills off the little bridge that separated a small channel between Clear Lake and Round Lake, and chasing evening fireflies on the lawn near the hotel cottage. Mr. Nagle, you may recall that I was along for the visit a few years ago that my sister describes, and that my mother later lent you some old photos. Mr. Lewis, these are great photos. I am the grandaughter of Christine and Homer Moreland who owned the Lakeside Hotel. My mother Nancy is their daughter. My mother and father and other members of my family returned to Clearlake and the Lakeside Hotel a few years ago and Mr. Nagle showed us around. It was a wonderful walk down memory lane for us and we were so pleased to see how beautifully Mr. Nagle has maintained the Lakeside.

Hi Jeff..this is great site...love all the old photo's does bring memories..My family bought the old Lakeside Hotel in the 80's and the house behind there years before...many memories of going there every summer for two weeks...loved fishing, and rember the bell being rung for breakfest, lunch and dinner....Wanted to get Chuck Heckman's email address and pick his brain about theLakeside Hotel...Do you have his email address

My Aunt and Uncle owned the "Lakeside Hotel" Christine and Homer Moreland, my first summer working there was in 1957, I was 14 yrs old. I've told my children and grand-children about the great summers I spent there. Nightly walks to the "Coolie Hut" sneeking down to "hazenhurst" and ringing there dinner bell late at night, and they would ring ours, Party's on the "Island" beautiful "Chris-Craft and Century" in-board Boats. It was absolutly the best summers of my life.

I am totally delighted by these old pictures of Clear Lake. My father's family build 350 and many year's later added the little house in back. My recent visits have saddened me, as so much is gone and built over. My childhood memories of Clear Lake are glorious and your generosity in sharing these old pictures is so very much appreciated. It brought tears to my eyes to see things the way they used to be! I wonder if anyone has a picture of the little Coolie Hut (sp?) where my Getz and Ward cousins and I shared many a Pokagon soda. I could write about the lake all night. Anyway, thanks so much! Jan Getz (Rayl)

My grandfather had 5 cottages on Clear Lake - 3 on the east side and 2 on the south side. In the Post card with cottages "526-540' - Myself and my brothers and sisters are sitting on the dock. The large tree is infront of the "Mary Sunshine" - named after my mother (now replaced). Great memories

My grandparents owned a cottage on Clear Lake when I was a small child. My parents used to take us back to visit them for a couple of weeks each summer. I can still see the old two-story 3 bedroom, 1 bath house with the enormous tree in the front yard. I want desperately to return and revisit my childhood memories, but I'm afraid that nothing will look the same. My little sister and I used to walk down the street, past the beach that had the steep hill cement steps and down to the general store where we would load up on candy and soda. I wonder if that general store is still there. Can anyone tell me? The last time I was there was 1984. My grandfather, Arthur "Mike" Fenicle passed away in 1987, and my grandmother, Viola Fenicle passed away a few years later. Seeing pictures and reading about Clear Lake brings me to happy tears thinking about them and allows me to relive the "good old days". Thank you for the site. And, thanks for the memories.

I was born and raised at Clear Lake ... my Dad was the plumber here ... Maurice Lomont, and Mom not only cooked at the old Terrace Gardens in the 30's, she worked at Wagnors ... My memories are going to sleep every night in the summer with the sounds of the wonderful music from the dance hall ... I remember the skating rink, Spangler's soda fountain, the duck pin alley at the end of the grocery store there, and all the summer fun. Dr. Wesley Kimball had the lodge next to us, where the college kids came for a week, he also rented horses .. I remember the Norton Riding Stable across from the skating rink. Today, my grandchildren are enjoying the magic and beauty of Clear Lake.

David Pfanner, I now am an owner on the east shore of clear lake where the public beach is located. The lake is still very beautiful and as all lakes the small cottages are now being replace with large three story houses. I have owned for 15 years at clear lake and I call in my "Happy Place" Planning on spending this summer there and enjoying the beauty of the lake.

I spent several summers at Clear Lake in the late 1930's and early 40's. My grandparents were Mr. and Mrs John Pfanner and their cottage was between the Prey's and the Randall's at that time. I'm not clear as to which shore this was but likely the west. I remember going to bingo games at the Yacht Club and picnics on the island. I fished for bass, perch and bluegills and remember catching garfish as well. I would be interested in hearing from anyone living or vacationing in this area at this time. I now live in Australia.

What a delight to see pictures of Clear Lake and Fremont, Ind. I grew up at Clear Lake in the l940's. My parents owned Waggoner's Grocery/Grill and later added a Drive in, complete with Car Hops. I went to Fremont Elementary School, my brother was on the Basketball Team in 1947-48. I have some pictures also, that might be of interest. I returned a few years ago, and progress had washed away all of my memories, it was sad time for me. Thanks for the pictures.

What fun to see the old views of Fremont and Clear Lake, my husband's grandparents had the post office at Clear Lake years ago, his mother and uncles played around the Indian grave that was located on the north side of Clear Lake.

Thank you for the pictures. I am so excited to find information about the beautiful lake my family visited in the 50s. Candy store, ponies - I would love to see those pictures.
