Why are people attracted to lighthouses? I’m certain that part of the appeal lighthouses have is that they are situated in some of the most beautiful settings anywhere. They can often be found on rocky coastlines or sandy beaches. Typically they are found in the most remote parts of the country where a sunset or sunrise over a large body of water can be viewed in solitude. Lighthouses are the perfect place to view these spectacular settings.

Because they are some of the most historic structures in the country, lighthouses also appeal to our nostalgic and artistic senses. The typical rugged lighthouse was engineered to endure the ravages of the wind and sea, but they also are a testament to beauty and ingenuity in their design. With rock foundations, spiral staircases, conical towers, and lantern rooms filled with giant lenses, lighthouses are simply beautiful structures.

My collection of lighthouse pictures is far from complete. My fascination with these historic structures will remain and I intend to visit more lighthouses in the future and add more images to my collection.
