Cape Verde (color)

Some photos I took during my trip to Capo Verde in october 1999: Sal (1 to 6) Fogo (7 to 28) and Santo Antao islands (29 to end).

Sal, a quite dry island, the main entry for tourists. At that time the tourist resort area was reduced to Santa Maria area. Then it was already a well known spot for surf, windsurf and starting kitesurf. The other activity was salt production.
Fogo is an almost round-shaped volcanic island (Pico Caldeiras, 2700 m, and and Pico de Fogo, 2800 m) surrounded by the furious Atlantic' surge which contrasts to black rocks and sand. This is still an active volcanic area. Last major eruption took place in early 90’, thus in some places can be seen green young vegetation emerging from the black mineral lave field
In the caldera one can see wineyards and the produced good red 15° wine (du gros rouge qui tache!) is to be tried
Santo Antao is an amazing island divided in a very dry part and and a a more luxurious part separated by an high mountain barrier. Courageous people fish in very rough sea conditions as well as inland they maintain almost hand-paved steepy roads crossing the island. I must say that I had pleasent time with friendly people living there despite the fact I didn't spoke portuguese.

Presented photos are fujichrome velvia scanned compressed files in order to save space...full size is almost 10 mega each...
