Hilton Head Island and Daufuskie Island – South Carolina

Once I left Atlanta I was supposed to travel to Hilton Head Island South Carolina to visit my friend Kathy, unfortunately a little storm called Hurricane Matthew forced me to change my plans. After delaying my departure and spending a few extra days in Atlanta it was clear that I was not going to get anywhere near the island as it had taken a direct hit that left it in disarray. So I changed my plans, one of the advantages of traveling in an RV, and headed directly south to Florida.

I spent two weeks exploring southern Florida and the Florida Keys and then headed back up the coast to Hilton Head. The cleanup was still underway but most of the tough work was done and with the weather back to normal we were able to take the family boat out on the smooth waters down to Daufuskie Island which is just south of HHI. The island is sparsely populated now but is growing in popularity. Like HHI, Daufuskie has broad sand beaches and because of its location was also pounded by Hurricane Matthew.
