After leaving Twin Lakes Glen, my guide and pilot, flew us to a landing on Kenibuna Lake where we hiked to the edge of Shamrock Lake and a great view of Shamrock Glacier. As nice as that view was it really couldn’t beat the view on the way in as we flew down the glacier, top to bottom! The glacier itself is not in Lake Clark National Park, although half of Kenibuna Lake is, and the view over the lake into the park was spectacular. We spent a few hours overlooking Shamrock Lake where we enjoyed the scenery and our lunch. We were not alone. No less than six black bears were in the vicinity, all feasting on the soapberries that are in abundance in the area at this time of the year. The bears only had a passing interest in us, every once in a while stopping to check to make sure of where we were and then going about the business of the day which was their soapberry harvest.
