I was assigned to Combined Joint Task Force Horn of Africa for one year. I lived in a tent for a few months, then upgraded twice to Containerized Living Units. There is a good dining facility, a gym, and a 5 mile dirt trail for running or bicycling. There are several coalition officers working there, so I studied some foreign language skills as well (Swahili, Arabic, and French). Now I pick up a few lines from the Kenyans in "Snows of Kilimanjaro".

Thanks for the Djibouti photos. I'm deploying there in a couple of weeks and it gives me a good idea of what to expect.

Jeff - It was nice to hear that there are some things about Camp Lemonier that are OK, especially the part about no bullets flying around. I had a brief e-mail from my son on Tues. just saying they had landed and that they had flown over the great pyramids, which he thought was very cool. Hope to hear more from him soon, of course. What a great thing the internet is for all of you to be able to easily keep in touch with those of us at home. I looked at a few more of your photos from your world travels, esp. enjoyed Italy and Sicily, places I've always wanted to visit. I'll check back later in case you post any more pictures of your surroundings. Best wishes to you....
