Compton Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis vaualbum)

Lookout Trail, Algonquin

Although this species resembles the anglewings, right down to the silvery comma on the underside, the Compton Tortoiseshell is actually more closely related to the Mourning Cloak!

We found this butterfly in a sunny spot off the main path of the Lookout Trail along with a smaller anglewing which flew away before I could photograph or identify it.
