The Ottawa region is home to two forktails (Genus Ischnura): the Eastern Forktail, which may very well be one of our region's most common odonate species, given its long flight season and ability to thrive in a variety of wetland habitats; and the Fragile Forktail, considered uncommon and never found in the same numbers as its close relative. A third species, the Citrine Forktail, was found just west of Ottawa in 2008 but did not re-appear the following year.
