Santorini used to be a normal and round island, like any island in the Aegean sea, but it had an active volcano in the middle. A long time ago, the volcano exploded, and tore a big part of the island into the sea. After that, people started to build houses on the cliff. Today, Santorini is a island with the shape of a new moon, with the volcano in its arms.
