Here in the States, London is perceived as being a rainy destination.

While it's true that London's weather is "wet" at times, I'd characterize it as a "pleasant wet" where one finds anything from mist to drizzle to brief periods of light showers intersperced with clouds and/or bright sky. A London visit is not about rain as it is about be dressed correctly for the weather of the moment.

"Wet London" does not impede us from throrougly enjoying our visits. A water-resistant coat, a hat, & occassionally, an umbrella will suffice. Londoners are themselves mostly oblivious of the rain. And that's really the magic of a London visit. Being Westend theater buffs, we've had some wonderful nights walking Southbank in the mist and thinking about Eponine's song from Les Mis as she walks in the rain ( I guess this reveals the sort of London nuts we are ).

Having said all of this, yes are are occassional moments where one gets caught in a downpour. The picture "soaked pixel capturers" attests the one time we get caught in wind & rain crossing the Millennium Bridge and are soaked by the time we cross to Southbank. Even then, we had a choice of walking into the wind or walking with our backs to the wind ( and soaking our arses ). We chose the former since our destination was a Greek resturant 100 meters from the bridge and we needed them to sit on. You always have choices when you visit London.
