The Magic was orignially scheduled to call on Grand Turk in the Caribbean, but issues with the stern thruster required the ship to be rerouted to Freeport, Grand Bahama for repairs. The first day in port we took a tour of the Garden of the Groves. Wallace Groves was a man of vision and was able to have Freeport declared a free trade zone. He subsequently oversaw a the development of Grand Bahama into a major resort destination. Groves and his wife became quite wealthy and developed the gardens we toured. The gardens were beautiful. Hurricanes in 2005 and 2006 did major damage to Grand Bahama, and the island has never fully recovered in infrastructure or population.
