But Sir... I thought the purpose was for all of us to learn..and if I can't comment publicly, how can others compare their judgments and reactions to mine (and yours?)
Guest 12-Apr-2005 05:29
I get it. I think. Yeah - I get it. I'm pretty sure I get it. So why is it oversharpened? ;-)

Feel better now? :-)

Ron and Vinh often leave me suggestions for improving my images and I've encouraged them because I find it helpful BUT they are also very constructive in the way they do it and that's the key. Anyway.... I love your images!

Interesting subject raised in a hilarious way.I have noticed that while one viewer may critique a photo for a particular reason, the next viewer really likes it for the same reason. In the end, I think we are all just happy to be able to share our images and see what people think.

This is hilarious! Great job Jeremy!

I like both of these -- all of it -- the expression, the over sharpening, the blown out side, the words, the emotions expressed. Critique is also good .. if tossed in with the negativity is a suggestion or two. And ya do with it whatever ya want - or not - because sometimes the effect *is* exactly what you were going for. I do agree .. silence is worse than criticism because then you just don't know. Good stuff here. :)

Well, I like the SP very much, angsty or not. Well done!
Guest 09-Apr-2005 03:44
Most people in this forum are very nice and trying to be helpful. I realize that their idea of a good photo and mine may be different (I happen to like my images at an angle for example). I personally prefer to let people know what I LIKE that they did so they can do more of it and I find the same kind of feedback encouraging - like I must be on the right track. I try to create photos that make me happy. Just me. BTW: wonderfully over-sharpened SP! (LOL)

delicate topic indeed, and one i can't resist commenting on, as i'm probably a minority in my position on it.

here on PAD, you're going to get a LOT of compliments. so much that you cannot always tell when someone is being honest or not. "Good job! Excellent! Wonderful! Nice!" while good for the ego, it's all a dime a dozen. the only truthful comment you can count on is criticism. and more often than not, criticism carries no malicious intent either. after all, we're here to learn from one another are we not? even more malicious than criticism, is saying nothing at all; essentially leaving the person in the dark.

while i can understand Antonis' comment about politely making comments in private. i tend to prefer open discussion. open communication is a positive thing. if you have criticism, it allows others to see what you have to say, and add to it, argue otherwise, etc... the hope is that we learn together from the discussion. keep things private and the lesson to be learned is lost to the rest of us. open discussion also has the added benefit of promoting community, a potentially useful one.

Hey Jeremy, you could be talking about any of my pictures any day of the week/month/year and I seem to hit all the same 'faults' I say we pretend they're avant garde and start charging per view! I'd be a rich person. Not sure about you tho. since your's don't suffer as badly.
Gary Winters09-Apr-2005 03:02
And as for the second photo, well...I like that oversharpened effect a LOT. So there.
Gary Winters09-Apr-2005 03:00
Well, other than the fact that this picture is a bit oversharpened, has some DOF issues, suffers from blown highlights and a distracting background, I like this SP! (ducking!)

Actually, seriously, I LIKE this SP! So there!
nomadicdragon09-Apr-2005 02:41
LOL.

great shots.
joanteno08-Apr-2005 23:51
Great commentary and SPs
Guest 08-Apr-2005 23:19
lol...I was only going to say..this is an awesome shot..can I say that?
Chris Sofopoulos08-Apr-2005 22:12
I like this photo. It's really very expressive. And I mean that.
I prefer the different and individual shots that express the artist.
Guest 08-Apr-2005 22:12
great sp!!
btw the second pic is a tad oversharpened. :)
gosh hoped i didn't comment on it that way on the first time? :?
Guest 08-Apr-2005 21:55
I love them both.
Chris08-Apr-2005 21:22
I like the sharpness in the lower photo. Tends to emphasize your trademarked 'always five o'clock somewhere' look. And, hey, bro, congratulations on having the most popular photo of the week. Like, kudos and stuff. :)
Guest 08-Apr-2005 21:00
Whoa! Chill dude...
Antonis Sarantos08-Apr-2005 20:53
This is a very delicate theme. I think that critisism should be done and should be accompanied by creative opinions. Of course a more polite way is in private with messages and not with comment under photos. I also think that you have nothing to fear from this because you are an excellent photographer and these pictures are an unbeatable proof. I say that you should pass by all the comments that they have nothing to offer to you.
A vote for your awesome SP!!!

I really like the color in both images and the sharpness of the boat and window is amazing. Er, wait...was that the last guy's photo? TGIF!
Josy's Pics08-Apr-2005 20:29
Excellent!... I totally agree with you... :)
Take care...
Josy
jude08-Apr-2005 20:26
Well.. not to critisize but.. KIDDINGGGGGGGGGGG.. :D
I would say 9 times out of 10 when I get criticism it's over a process I've done purposely..
I like both of these.. And I DO like the sharp-edged contrasty look of the bottom photo.. different.. and Jeremy, different is very very good :D
Guest 08-Apr-2005 20:08
