Zhaga Waterfall, Munigou (Aug 06)

Munigou is a separate scenic area/nature reserve from Jiuzhaigou, and is located about 17 kilometres south of Songpan. Here, you get a welcome respite from the huge crowds in Jiuzhaigou, which thin out to almost nothing in Munigou, and you can enjoy the beauty of the park in its full serenity.

The two main attractions in Munigou currently are Erdao Lake (which we did not visit), and the Zhaga Waterfall. This is a travertine waterfall, the biggest of its kind in China, and is 93 metres high and 35 metres wide. Zhaga means white in the local Tibetan language. You can hear the roar of the waterfall way before you see it. Wooden stairs on each side allow you to climb up to the top of the waterfall.
