The cable-chair ride from the station at the White Water Terraces takes you mid-way up the mountain, and from there a 1-2 km walk on a planked walkway brings you to Yunshanping, a large expanse of pasture hidden in the virgin forest on the east of Yulong Mountain (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain). In Naxi language, Yunshanping is called "Wuluyiuciuge" which means "the land where people wish to die for love". History has it that the grasslands were a clandestine meeting place for forbidden lovers wrenched apart by parental objections to their union. This romantic legacy has gradually dissolved however. Today, Yunshanping hosts folk performers from the minority groups serenading the most lovelorn songs for tourists.
On a clear day, Yunshanping is especially scenic with the snow-capped peaks of Yulong mountain rising above the pasture, forming a beautiful backdrop for the folk performance in the pasture surrounded by tall trees.
