Hi, I love Great Harbor Key, went few time by privat airplane and everybody stop driving to take you to the city, evrybody friendly, customs are great and helpfull,would love to leave my 34' trawler all year arround to come spend few week ends a year but cannot find a cheap dockage, seems it's cheaper to rent a cottage than a slip at marina, has anybody a slip for rent at a convenient price?

We spent our honeymoon in GHC 40 yrs ago in 1969. At that time the island was new and in the process of being developed. We stayed in accommodiations called Rondettes (not sure of the spelling) on the hills above the ocean. They were octagon stilt houses. I'm wondering what type of lodging is available today? Any information you can provide would be fun reading!

I was reviewing the comments written below and beg to differ on one of the opinions written by a guest user. When we bought our property on Great Harbour Cay last year, we used an agent by the name of Lauren Higgs She works with Coldwell Banker out of Nassau. She was very knowledgable of the island and regarding Bahamian Real Estate (which, I must say differ than that of in the US!) Ms. Higgs displayed both professionalism and incredible patience with us. We are forever thankful to her in helping find our perfect piece of Paradise on Great Harbour Cay.

GHC is a beautiful island worthy of consideration by anyone interested in leasing or purchasing property. Recently, however, I've had a horrible experience with a broker named Loren Higgs. Without saying too much, incompetency and unprofessionalism are two words that sum up said scenario. Only wanting to provide feedback to future interested parties, there are other options I discovered after more research. So, simply put , do your homework and best of luck in your quest. As previously stated, this is a small slice of heaven not to be overlooked and the pictures say it all!

It is exciting to see these photos and to hear that Great Harbor is alive and well. We were there on our 55ft motoryacht in May 1995 and, although we have been all though the Bahamas since (on the 55ft and on our 70ft the past six years) we had not been back, thinking it was in disrepair. But we'd love to get there in summer 09 if possible. It was very tricky getting in (we draw 5.5ft). Does anyone have recent local knowledge? oates.carroll@artec-machine.com M/V Miramare Thanks.

it is just such a pleasure to view this site, i just happened to pull it up this morning and it is breathtaking. I am orignally from Great harbour cay, born and bred, now residing in south Florida, but visit GHC just about every weekend. For those of you inquiring about the Beach Club, it is still there under new management, but the burgers are still the best. Also for those inquiring about the Marina, and other rental properties. If you have not been there in a while, you are in for a surprise. The most beautiful homes have been built on the Island and are up for rent, some even for sale. while i dont have the name of the agent, you can contact the GHC Marina at 242 367 8005 and Clarice Aranha at the office will be more than happy to get you in touch with the agent. thanks for sharing these pictures

We spent many memorable days on GHC, as guests of Jim Naber and Ralph Glendinning, who owned "Sugar Gate" on Sugar Beach. We used to stay in the townhouses bordering the marina, eat at the Tamboo Club and drink "What it is" rum drinks at the Beach Club. We used to fish on Naber's boat, The Azucar, with Captain, Ed Hallicy. Also fished a few times with Percy. A magical place we will never forget, and to which we would love to return, but have lost all contacts. Any of this ring a bell for anyone?

Angie and Marty, I know your house well, because I almost bought it a couple of years before you purchased the house. The owner of the house, when you bought it was a french lady. I know so little about the island. My father bought four plots of land back in the sixties. I know that two are in reasonable positions... the other two are at the far end that are a bit swampy. I have now inherited these plots. Google earth seems to show a vibrant community... can anyone advise me on what to do with these plots? Regards Peter Dowsing. uk

What a lovely surprise to find this site and these beautiful photos. My partner and I own the house mentioned as belonging to Earl Blackwell and called Carriearl. We purchased it 3 years ago and have since been renovating it as it had been empty for about 10 years and was in a state of disrepair. It is a beautiful house and a happy home and, yes, has the 50' swimming pool with the Rooster on the bottom. We would love to hear from anyone visiting, and in particular to hear from Earl's nephew as we are so interested in the history of the house. We now have 3 bedrooms and a 2 roomed apartment for rent - yes it did have 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. We would be deligted to help anyone visiting our Paradise Island - We have been nick-named 'The Britz Ritz' - nothing to do with the number of parties we have!!!! I used to visit the island as a guest of my Uncle Earl Blackwell (by marriage - since divorced). I have a daughter from that marriage who is Earl's great niece. Earl Blackwell was an author who wrote about celebrities (the first to do that sort of thing). He was the one who had Carey Grant and Bridget Bardot visit the island in his guest house. Earl's island home was named "Carriearl", I believe. It has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, pool out back and the ocean beyond. We enjoyed many stays there. Tony and I had a long term stay once to bring the place up to date, including re-doing the pool (with the vacation home's symbol - a rooster on the bottom!) We had to bring the materials in on a barge. Does anyone know what happened to Earl's Blackwell's home on the island? Was it sold? Did it get destroyed by a hurricane or is it still there? I'd be interested to know.

I visited the island frequently as a guest of Ace Dawson (long past away) back in the late 70's. Is there still the Graveyard Inn Bar, or the Sugar Beach Hotel/Bar (very very RUSTIC)? Many great memories.......

We once stayed in Great Harbour Cay after flying over in a small plane. There were three town houses on the water right beside the runway and there was space to park out plane between the houses. We have lost the contact folks for renting those houses and wondered if you might know how to contact them if the town houses still exist.
