My Grandparent's World

My grandparents have lived in the same home they built together when they were first married.
They just celebrated their 59th anniversary. (June 2006)
It is a comfort to go there for everything is familiar.
The only thing changing is their health which is declining quickly.
Hoping to add lots of photos in this gallery and visiting them a lot...

I know that my grandfather (Gregory Mantheiy) and yours are related....I think maybe John was my grandfather's nephew. He was also a welder...worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard inside ship hulls. But I had to send you a note when I saw your pictures of your grandfather is the blue work cap....my grandfather's trade mark!! My grandmother would wash them and stretch them over the bottom of an aluminum teapot to dry. And, you called him "Pap"? I called mine "Pap-Pap". My grandmother (Elizabeth Mantheiy) was Me-Maw. I'm pretty sure that I met your parents ages ago in my grandparents house on Manse Road in Hagerstown. That would have been nearly 50 years ago! (eh-hem...I was very young, of course ;D ). I wasn't "creeping" as the kids say when I found this site. I googled your grandfather's name so I could send his obiturary information to my mom (Mary Stevens). I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. From the looks of these pictures, being a real sweety seemed to run in the Mantheiy genes. I don't know of anyone kinder or more loving than my Pap-pap....and yours seems to be cut from the same stuff. Thanks for posting these pictures. I'll have to print them out for my mom.

I just received nearly 40 pounds of photos, including many
of my grandparents (I've suddenly become the designated photo
archivist in the family) and hope someday I'll be able to post
a gallery from among them with as much love in it as this one.
