Weardale- Images from the Durham Dales

The Durham Dales are a favorite destination for blowing off the cobwebs. The area consists of tracts of wide open moorland broken up by intimate river and stream valleys. Everywhere there are remnants of the area's lead mining past which have now blended in after 100 years of disuse. Worth a trip.

Can't understand why Alfred Wainwright thought little of Weardale. Must have been a bad day! I moved to Durham 11 yrs ago, & love the Dale to bits.

I've been over those moors many a time in my life.....oh how I miss them and the smell of the heather....plus a few sheep wandering onto the roads here and there....great photos, makes me homesick....
