Dunstanburgh Castle

The imposing ruins of this once formidable fortress are situated about a mile or so to the north of the fishing village of Craster on the cliffs of the Northumberland Coast. Dunstanburgh castle is one of a number built in this region to guard the coast from invasion and to control the surrounding countryside during more tubulent times. The castle was bombarded during the Wars of the Roses resulting in the ruins seen today. Now the area is very peaceful and the beaches and countryside largely unspoilt. Well worth spending a little time to explore the natural beauty and the area.
