Date: 10th - 12th July 2008
Route: Mesilau - Laban Rata - Low's Peak - Timpohon
Day 1: Reached Kinabalu Park around 1300H, 10th July. Explored Botanical Garden.
Day 2: Began our journey from Mesilau Gate @ 0845H. Reached Laban Rata (Waras Hut) around 1500H.
Day 3: Most of us can't sleep well due to high altitude sickness. Started from Laban Rata at 0210H (Temperature: 7.7°C). Reached Low's Peak around 0535H for sun rise (Temperature: < 5°C + windy). My winter hand glove was wet and it's extremely cold. Numb on my fingers & toes. We're at the summit for about half an hour waiting for the sunlight to break the clouds. Took a few fast shots from the summit and quickly make the descend as we couldn't stand the cold anymore. Moreover, the summit gets too crowded with people.
It's really an unforgettable 'expedition'. This trip has challenged me physically & mentally. You really learn more about your body and things we take for granted - AIR, which does make a difference @ 4,000m above sea level if you don't 'appreciate' it. It gives you the sense of achievement in your life. No wonder some of the climbers came back every year!
Last but not least, the spectacular view. I'll let my photos do the talking. ;)
