Santa Ines is nicknamed "the hidden gem of the missions." This seems a fitting nickname,as it appears completely out of place in its surroundings. To get to it, one drives through the very Danish village of Solvang. The mission is located at the far end of town, its Spanish architecture in stark contrast to the traditional Danish architecture found throughout Solvang.

Santa Ines was the 19th mission established, founded on September 17, 1804 by Father Tapis Estevan. It was named for Saint Agnes of Rome.
