hi, i really enjoyed you wonderful photos of the children. anyone who is inspired to photograph kids usually rates high on my humanity scale. thank you so much for sharing your photograph, it allows others to experience those places we have not (yet) been, and even encourage us to try harder to see the rest of the world.

Hi Tiffani,

The paste is the ground bark of the thanaka tree, and takes the tree's name. It serves both as sunscreen and as a cosmetic. It's broadly worn throughout the country by girls, young boys, and women. Some times they etch designs in the dried paste, which can be quite striking.
