This trip was primarily to visit Kobuk Valley National Park, which is now the 43rd National Park we have visited. There are actually a few others we have visited, but not since the era of digital photos, so we will do them again! Though expensive to fly to Alaska for just one park, it actually saves money vs. trying to see this park and Gates of the Arctic from the Fairbanks/Bettles side. We will do that next year as part of a trip with another couple to Denali. Part of the issue as well is that there are no flights (at least on Alaska Air) from Kotzebue (where we stayed) to Fairbanks. So, while this was a trip to just one National Park, we also visited Cape Krusenstern National Monument and Noatak National Preserve.
PS: The day we visited the parks was also the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service (created to manage the parks), and at the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center in Kotzebue they had a party to celebrate that we went to!
