We had driven all the way around the mountain on the 17th and were at home on Sunday morning when we heard it had fully erupted. So we grabbed our 6 month old son, Kevin, and headed to the volcano. We knew we would come to a road block, which we did at about 14 miles from the volcano. We turned around there and about a quarter mile back, a farmer was letting people park in his front yard. On the Southwest side where we were, you could have a picnic, while it was utter destruction on the Northeast side.
These images are all scanned from slides and negatives we took at the time. I will be adding more as I process them. The original shots were taken with a Nikon EL and EL2 bodies.
