This was a short 3 night visit to Kings Canyon National Park in California. We stayed at John Muir Lodge, which is in Giant Forest Village within the park and just a couple of miles from the General Grant tree. We met our son, Kevin, there and had a good visit. We also had relatively good weather. The first afternoon we got there, it was overcast and rather dark as we got there late afternoon. The next day it was brighter, but snowing (great for photos). Then on Monday, Dec 24, it was Sunny! BTW: For those that are not familiar with Kings Canyon NP, it is on the North side of and connects with Sequoia NP, both of which are South of Yosemite NP. Also, I had to buy chains for our rental car, an AWD Nissan Rogue, as you are not allowed into the mountains in California at this time of year without chains, and the entry to the National Park checked to see if you had chains, or you would not be allowed in! Fortunately, they only required them to be installed on 2WD vehicles and the AWD worked fine (as long as I was careful). If the roads had gotten any worse, they would have required that AWD vehicles would also be required install their chains.
