Old Denali Highway & Denali National Park, 31-Jul-04 till 2-Aug-04
When we left the Wrangell-St. Elias area, we headed North to Paxson, and then West across the Old Denali Highway to Denali National Park. 135 miles of this highway is gravel! It is actually a pretty good gravel road, but it can be bumpy and dusty! It does go through some beautiful country, but we again had an overcast/rainy day while driving it. The first three images in the gallery are from along this road. The last three are along the Parks Highway as we left Denali National Park. In between are views from within the park. After arriving at the park on the evening of 31 Jul 2004, we drove the 12 miles or so that you allowed to drive, and saw a moose. The next day we took the shuttle bus to Wonder Lake and back (11 hours), and it was wet, cold and windy the whole day! Oh well, at least we did see some wildlife, including some close-ups of Dall Sheep at Polychrome Pass. Enjoy!
