Grizzly Bears at Brooks Lodge, in Katmai National Park, Alaska, USA. My son and I arrived at Brooks Lodge on the morning of July 20th, 2006 and left the afternoon of July 22nd, 2006. The reality was every bit as good as they describe, if not better! It is expensive, but worth it! Anytime you see a photo of a Grizzly catching a fish in its mouth it is probably taken here, or at the McNeil River which is about 50 miles to the Northeast (only limited access, via lottery). We saw bears on the beach, walking through camp, on the trails, in the river, and from the various viewing platforms. Even with the close proximity of so many bears, park rangers do everything the can to keep it as safe as possible, including an orientation telling you how to act near the bears. I have broken my slides down into several galleries to make it easier to find images. Our first day we saw quite a variety of bears, including a nasty fight. The second had a major increase in the number of fish, so lots were being caught. The third day had fewer fish, so less being caught, but it was still nice.
