Shortly after I retired in 2015, Janet & I realized that we had already been to 42 of the 59 national parks. So, we decided that over the next several years that we wanted to finish seeing the rest of the 59 parks. Even of the 42 we have seen, two of them were decades ago and we have no photos of them, so we are including them on the ones we have yet to see, so that put us at 40. Since then we have added seven more parks, bringing us up to 47. We have plans to add ten more by the end of this year and then finish the last two in Spring or Summer of next year! As of the end of September, 2017, we have now reached 55 parks. We plan on adding two more by mid-June of 2018, however because of the recent hurricanes, the last two, Dry Tortugas NP and US Virgin Islands NP will have to wait until 2019 or later so that the parks, especially US Virgin Islands NP will need time to recover. As of June, 2018, we have added Haleakala NP, but our trip to American Samoa was cancelled due to Hawaiian Airlines changing not only times, but even days that they fly there. We will still try to finish all 60 parks by sometime in 2019. I know there are technically 63 parks now with the change of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore to Indiana Dunes National Park and changing White Sands National Monument to White Sands National Park. Now we also have New River Gorge National Park. We will need to plan trips to these.
