My grandfather is Mitchell Arseniu. He was stationed here 57-59. I have a photo of his barracks, the only rooma in this building with the windows completely blocked out. He wrote for security reasons on the back on the photo. His barracks was the far right 3 rooms bottom floor. The sign out in the photo in front of his barracks says 69th AAA GF US ARMY. Please email me at dmadetails@gmail.com with any insight.

I was an army brat and my father commanded the 516th Signal Group in 1958 and 1959, his name was Colonel William A. Glass Jr. I was 11 and 12 years old at the time and loved going to watch the baseball team play - the Neureut Spartans. We had a great team in those days with a pitcher named Monty Geiger who was just unhittable. The concession stand would sell big old fashioned bottles of German beer and the condensation on summer days would make the labels kind of slide so they were easy to peel off. The soldiers would peel the labels off when they finished a beer and stick it on the seat next to themselves so by the 6th or 7th innings guys would have several of these labels stuck next to them and the enthusiasm in the stands would increase proportionally. Great memories of some great games playing teams from much bigger bases and the rowdy supportive crowds!

I was stationed at Nuereut Kaserne 66 - 68 2nd maintenance battalion near the end of the camp. I am in Karlsrue now tryin to find the kasern. Not having much luck any help would be appreciated. I remember a bar called the Taverny and another called the caveren which was downstairs and resembled a cave. A friend named Bill Bailey played a hammond b3 organ at the caveren, songs like knock on wood, midnight hour etc. Great Times. Names I remember are Chuck Silva (Boston)Mike Kokious (Chigago) Rayond Tchou. Please contact me if you remember any of this.
