For the trip through Tibet, I carried the following: 1) 3.0 gigs of compact flash cards, 2) Nixvue Digital Album Lite, and 3) 2 batteries for my D100.

At altitudes over 10,000 ft, the Nixvue does not work (for that matter, no conventional harddrive is specified to work at that altitude because of the thin air). So for the majority of the trip through Tibet, I shot in jpg mode and was sparing with my CF cards. Once I reached Nepal, I immediately backed-up all my files into the Nixvue.

The batteries were not really an issue because 2 batteries in the D100 can easily last for quite a while. I did constantly monitor battery usage to make sure that I would not run out though, and a few hotels at larger cities have conventional outlets.

Hi Jason,

Your photos are wonderful. I am interested to know how you able to travel with a digital camera across tibet?

Hi Jason,

Your pictures are very beautiful as they capture the moment in a very real way. Thanks for sharing them with the rest of us. I felt I was a fly on a wall in each of them...

God bless,
Di
