Though thieves and souvenir hunters have cut much of it away, a delicate but unfinished lace remains in the large loom more than a decade after the factory was closed. Past employees describe an unceremonious company closure happening mid-shift, when a company vice president announced that the factory was closing and that everyone was to leave the facility "effective immediately." The looms were stopped in the middle of product production. In their shock and haste, many employees left behind personal items as they departed the factory for the last time.
One must look closely at the loom to appreciate the complexity of the massive machine, and recognize the high technology of its day.
