The Grand Bazaar, a must see for every visitor to Istanbul, is the world's first indoor shopping mall. As you stroll down any of the "streets" within the Grand Bazaar, merchants aggressively compete to get your attention and draw you into their shop. Don't let the first impression discourage you. Once inside their shop you'll find most merchants to be warm, humorous, knowledgeable and hospitable. Many will offer you a cup of tea while explaining the virtues of their products. Haggling over the price is expected in Turkey. The negotiation is part of Turkish culture and the buyer/seller ritual within The Grand Bazaar and elsewhere in the country.
