The Inca Trail is 26 miles long. Our goal was Machu Picchu. We camped for 3 nights and hiked 4 days. Our journey began when our group of 5 joined another group of 10 women. We were picked up via bus in Pisaq by S.A.S. Travel based in Cuzco. They were to drive us to Kilometer 82 - the start of the Inca Trail. Kenny and Javier were our guides plus we had 22 porters to carry our tents, food and other essentials. All that was required of us was to carry our sleeping bags, mats, water and other personal items. Plus we needed to bring along a sense of adventure and humor. S.A.S. travel was remarkable. The food was superb and the guiding was top notch. We were lucky in that when we began the Inca Trail, only 500 people were allowed per day. Two weeks prior, 1500 were allowed per day. The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu are becoming endangered due to overuse. It's a delicate balance to bring money into this poor country and preserve a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We didn't enjoy the crowds, but we did enjoy the scenery and were lucky to have great weather for the entire journey. Enjoy the photos. Please leave feedback if you like. -Jim and Jeannette Beriau
