Lake Titicaca. Our last destination with Active South America. We were taken first to the floating Islands where families live. After a short demonstration of how they build the islands and what they eat, we were taken on a reed boat for a short ride to another island. We were then taken to a peninsula where we picked up our kayaks and paddled to Amantani Island. (about 3 hours paddle). We were split up among different families and they took us in and fed us lunch and dinner, then later that evening, we played a soccer match against the locals, climbed to the highest point on the island, then were donned in traditional garments to attend a dance in a small building high up on Amantani Island. The women of the islands spoke no English, only some spanish and Quechua. We were given some common phrases to say. This helped to some degree. Overall a fantastic cultural experience.
