We began our jungle journey in Puerto Maldonado. From there we were transported by boat to our lodge. It was called Corto Maltes. Efram was our guide. He took us out for a short hike in the jungle to show us plants and trees with medicinal properties. We watched Parakeets eat the clay by the side of a river to help them with digestion, plus we went for a night boat ride to spot cayman and the large land rodents, which we saw plenty. We also went to Monkey island and were lucky to see all six species found there. We were paddled around on Lake Sandoval and saw many species of birds. The lodge was a friendly, comfortable place with many pets like Blancito, the black spider monkey and Pepe, the large Macaw. A nice change from the cold climate of the Andes.
