Taiwan, 2009

I will have to say this was a great trip for me, not having back to Taiwan for some 20+ years was sure
an eye opener! People kept asking me when I would be back to visit Taiwan and I honestly don't know,
but I told them I would not wait another 20 years to go back to the motherland!

And I loved every city for it's own uniqueness! I visited Taipei and I loved the public
transportation and it's busy city life, and I also liked Taijon and Fong Yuan because of being my
hometown, I also like Tainan because of the culture and of its history.

But I think it's the people that I encountered and that stayed with me that made it so great!
And I met quite a few people as well, my relatives that I haven't seen in ages, my cousins and
their kids, and my aunts and uncles as well! And I've made some new friends along the way as well,
I've also met very nice people along the way, vendors and just regular Joes just being friendly and
sharing their knowledge with me.

I actually did a lot of traveling and going from places to places by myself, and it's good to know
that I came back to US in one piece! I'm quite surprised that I didn't get lost or get taken for a
ride by the taxi driver, but it's good to know that whenever I spoke my Taiwanese, no one could
tell that I'm from out of Taiwan. But once I started speaking Mandarin, everyone would ask if I'm
from US or from Hong Kong. Note to self: Whenever approaching street vendors, always start with
Taiwanese so they think I'm a local and will give me the regular street price and not jack up
the price tag for out of country fools. It's good to know that I can safely travel by myself, no
matter if I'm taking the airplane, riding the train, metro rail, taxi or bus, that I can arrive
on time!

I did walk a lot, that's for sure! I guess it's a fact that after each out of country trip, once I
return, I will lose about 10 pounds! Before going back to Taiwan I was at 161, now after coming back
I'm at 152 lbs. I guess it's all that walking yerh? But I loved walking everywhere tho, because
there were just so much to see, there was always something new around the corner, and even in the
city of Tainan, I would walk pretty much the inner city, the 4 days I was there, I would average
about 4-5 hrs of walking each day! And by the end of the night when I was tired of walking, then
I would take a taxi back to the hotel!

Feb 19 was the first day I was there, it seemed like a really long day that felt like 3 days put
together! Feb 17 I was in US, and I actually went to Carlsbad premium outlet to get some last min
shopping! My flight was around 11pm and YH picked me up around 6:30, got to LAX around 7:20, the
plane left around midnight, and I watched one movie "connected", then slept from 2:30am to 10am.
Then arrived in Taiwan on Feb 19th 6am.
