Snowdonia

Snowdon the highest mountain in Wales and the highest mountain south of the Scottish highlands lies at an altitude of 1,085 m (3,560 ft) above sea level.Snowdon has one of the wettest climates in Great Britain and receives an average rain fall of more than 4,500mm a year. The Watkin path has the greatest change of altitude out of all the other hikes to the summit. Starting at 60m above sea level and increasing to the summit of 1,085 m the Watkin path height gain is that of 1025m. This path follows the course of the Afon Cwm Llan River, and then past the Gladstone Rock, before heading up the hillside to Cwm Ciliau which then takes you to the summit.

During the 19th of Dec 06 the temperature for the day varied between 2c-12c. Not One drop of rain fell, however pure sunlight radiated continually through the Sky and never failed us all the way to the summit of Snowdon. Since this hike took place in December the sun started to set as we planned our descent. As we were 3 miles away from the end of the hike we found ourselves still descending in complete darkness. Despite the dangers and decending earlier this gave us an opportunity to see a perfect sunset with winter colours and shadows from the summit that normally would not have been visible. Throughout the perfect day the various scenes below depict the awesome beauty of Snowdon via the Watkin path.
