Union-Castle's Africa Liner Kenya Castle was built in 1952, and purchased by Chandris in 1967. She was renamed Amerikanis, refitted for cruising, and became outrageously popular. Nicknamed "The American Lady," she sailed for Chandris under the same name for 29 years, until she was laid up 1996.
