Chandris' Galileo was completely redone to launch their upscale division, Celebrity Cruises, in 1988. She was extremely popular and remained in the fleet until 1997. Sold to Sun Cruises as Sun Vista, she sank after a fire off Malaysia in 1999.

Meridien was built in 1963 as the Italian Liner Galileo Galilei, and acquired by Chandris in 1983.
