The multi-deck atrium is a staple on modern cruise ships, but Royal Caribbean has perfected the concept. Serenade's rises 10 decks to the top of the ship. On the starboard side, glass elevators look in on the atrium or out to the ocean (an interesting experience in rough seas).
Later ships in the Explorer and Genesis classes extend the concept horizontally, creating a sort of open air main street along the center of the ship.
