LUCKNOW, in Northern India is an enchanted city of numerous attractions. It has a history, culture and tradition unsurpassed by any place in the country. Lucknow, uniquely, is a seat of learning of all forms of art and music, and boasts of having several world-class institutes, schools and colleges of arts, sciences, technology, business management, environmental sciences, and medical colleges and Unversities etc. It is the capital of the most populous state of U.P. in the Indian Union.

Recreation is provided in plenty. Lucknow has been dubbed as the city of parks and gardens. The charming, attractively curving and winding throughout its course, the ever so romantic River Gomti runs a good bit along the heart of the city. Lucknow's distinctive and delicious cuisine attracts people's palate and taste from all the corners of India and the world. Its inhabitants, particularly in the older parts of the city, are very soft-spoken, polite, friendly and helping. They love music, sports, movies, drama, art, and Hindi and Urdu poetry.

Lucknow has a rich tradition of history. To state briefly, it was ruled by the very generous and good-hearted Nawabs, for several centuries. During the British rule, there was a mutiny in 1857, which left its mark on people's life as well as on buildings, such as the Residency, which is on a vast area on top of a hill, and which included the residence and offices of the British Resident at the time of the Nawabs.
