> No, it's not your personality. It's true that flowers not in direct sunlight photograph a lot better. And much as I like blue skies for most of my backgrounds, the photos in my gallery on Hue were all taken in the rain, & the gallery seems to be fairly popular. Maybe because the first series of photos are of a tomb.
Christine Astell 17-May-2006 22:25
Thank you for your comments Jaris, it is nice to get some useful feedback. I was under the impression I needed bright sunlight for flowers, so it will be good to try something else. I am really just learning, so always glad to get advice. Your photo's are wonderful - very colourful.
Thanks again.

Thanks for your kind words about my gallery on Ayutthaya, which I just posted. I was there on a very grey, muggy day, and I'm always unhappy when I don't have a clear blue sky in the background nor any shadows in the foreground, so the fact that you found the lighting "excellent" -- particularly coming from someone like yourself whose galleries are quite extraordinary, the ones of India particularly -- makes me exceedingly happy.

Hi Paul: Thank you for your reply and the encouraging comments on my galleries. Scanning older film images takes so much time as well as some loss of sharpness, that I have now resorted to using the digital SLR camera solely. On nearly all my images, I routinely do some sharpening in "Unsharp Mask" in Photoshop Elements 3.0. A tripod helps me a lot in almost all my pics, particulary the closeups. I liked your other galleries too, and was quite impressed with the Riding Mountain N.P. pics depicting a good sense of the place, with its abundant wildlife you found at so close quarters, and of course, the very spectacular cloud formations! Thanks for your comments Jaris. Glad you like the spider web. My flora pics were taken with a combo of film/digital bodies, on/off tripod. I find the scanned images a little soft myself.

I'm really impressed with your gallaries! Keep up the good work.

Hello again Jaris,
A million dollar statement you made earlier - much appreciated. I'm still relatively new to photography and learn a lot from other galleries that I'm envious of.

Hi Jaris:
Thanks for the nice comments you left at my Point Lobos gallery .   I thought I would stop by your guestbook and leave you a note in case you don't see my reply:
Isn't PBASE great!   I'm meeting all of these photographers, and I just keep getting blown-away by some of the talent out here.   PBASE is quite a find...
And yep, I am drawn to those wildly eroded rock formations too, but one of these days I'm going to try to become a more "well rounded" photographer (like you) and make some sort of effort to start taking photos of people. ...but I am sort of set in my ways -- to be honest, I am more attracted to snaggly trees, crashing waves, and eroding sandstone than portraits or candids... I don't know--maybe I should leave people to the pro's like you...   Best regards Jaris, and good to hear from you again,   Donald Kinney www.pbase.com/photoarrow

Hi Jaris!

Thanks for the comments on my Spring Flower Power! Grateful for your suggestions, but perhaps in contrast to your style, I was not really looking for a subdued muted look here, I wanted the early morning sun to light up the flowers and make them radiant and full of color. It is more the color and the light than the actual flowers that is the message in these pics.

Take care
Zevs

Thanks for visiting my gallery - I had many problems with color issues on editing until I recalibrated my monitor, so I've been catching up with lots pictures taken in the past year or so. I've also been neglecting the comments/messages received for a while now, and thought I should visit others too. You have a very impressive set up here.

Kind regards, Gul
