You have some lovely photos, especially the many duck species. I don't know how in the world you get so close to many of them, especially the Hooded Mergansers. Perhaps they are more approachable when they are breeding up North, but I can't get within 100 feet of one when they winter down in NJ.

Hi Janet-
Thanks for sharing your photos. I am using the canon 400mm 5.6 lens because of your great photos and am very happy with it.
Keep up the Great Work!
Jacob Padrul 03-Mar-2010 18:29
Janet,
You are my inspiration. I am deciding which lens to buy, Canon 400mm or 100-400 and I have been looking for examples of both on this site. I can recognize your photos even without looking at the name. They are so well thought out, composed and so professionally executed… Did I say about the image quality (not only sharpness)? I am now leaning towards 400mm L prime, although I perfectly understand that it is not the lens/camera but the photographer

Hi Janet,
I am a conservation biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and I work specifically with partner organizations to conserve shorebirds and seabirds in Florida.

I am putting together a monitoring protocol for our partners which has ID tips for the different species in FL, and I need a pic of a Killdeer chick. Would it be possible to use your photo in our materials- credits will be included?

Hi Janet-Thanks for your always kind words about my Yellow-rumped warbler image. I was at the bay in New Jersey photographing Harquelin ducks and on my way back to the car I stumbled upon a small flock of very cooperative Yellow rumps. Do you have any Snowy's up your way? That's my target bird this winter. Are you a Nikon shooter? I have an excellent condition Nikon 500mm F4 lens for sale.
Happy New Year

Hello Janet, You take awesome pictures! I will be getting a Canon 400mm f/5.6L in a few weeks and a Canon 40D, your pictures, the sharpness of them, helped make my decision as I was torn betwen the I was torn with getting the Canon 100-400mm. I will be upgrading from a Sony Cybershot H5 which is great for the consumer, but I want to go pro some day. Do you use tripod a lot with a remote switch? just curious.

The best part about your wild life photography is that you get very close to your subjects without disturbing them. All birds look relaxed, behaving in the most natural way.

Great gallery all around. I was looking in particular at the Canon 40mm f5.6 and comparing it to the 300mm f4 with IS. not sure which one i'll get. You made the 400mm really sing. Umm, oddly enough as i was looking at your galleries about the 400mm lens i noticed it said "jante from dundas" now the mystery may be solved...we recently moved to a street named "dundas" i knew it sounded like a city or some place. now i know :-) thanks.

Janet, thanks for swinging by my site. You have quite an impressive site yourself - great variety. Very unique macro work especially. Yet it's also nice to see somebody who appreciates creatures as "common" as snails, starlings, and seagulls.

Hello Janet,
What beautiful work!
I am considering the Canon EF400mm lens as an addition to my photo gear.
Do you use the lens hand held or do you place it on a tripod to achieve your beautiful bird photos?
Garrett Lau 07-Mar-2006 06:10
Thanks for the nice comments on my bird photos. Yours are great, too. I especially like the bluejays and cardinals, as we don't have those in California.

You capture the life in all the pictures that you take, I am so impressed! Henry was too. Every since his modelling debut, I have been trying to keep his ego in check. My favorite picture (other than Henry) is the family shot. I am excited to see the new additions as they come!
