Busch Gardens Williamsburg was technically the first amusement park I ever went to, way back in 1989. It was here I proclaimed while watching Loch Ness Monster, that "kids go AHHHH!" Of course I recall absolutely nothing from that trip but do have some pictures.. My next visit to the park was 9 years later in 1998 when I was still terrified of coasters but somehow rode Wilde Maus and Big Bad Wolf.. the Wolf being my first 'big' coaster. Man I hated it, nearly made me swear off coasters for life..

But as we all now know, this did not happen, and in my next visit in 2001 I discovered the joy of Loch Ness Monster, Alpengeist, and Apollo's Chariot.. oh Apollo.. still my 2nd favorite steel coaster after some 100 steel coasters later. Apollo is the ride that all other hypers should be based on, the comfortable trains, the excellent floater air, the nice long layout in the woods, even the neat head choppers. Apollo is friendly and inviting, being the first thing you see pulling into the parking lot. Alpengiest on the other hand should be the epitome of ass-clenching terror, as you can see it from miles around, and every element is just absurdly large when you stand next to it. Unfortunately this is not the case.. it's so big that it takes away from itself, thus providing a somewhat dull and underwhelming ride.

The other two coasters, are a tad tamer, but still produce awesome rides, Loch Ness Monster built in 1978 is still one of the best sit down loopers around anywhere, and Big Bad Wolf was one of the first ever suspended coasters, and still probably the best. The park is world renowned for its excellent food, great themeing, and even better scenery. To say the least I feel very lucky to have such a great park near me.
