Well, I waited until the next morning (Sunday) and I didn't get any phone calls or faxes, but I thought to myself that I'd have a better chance of finding the church on a Sunday if went looking. So I headed outside of the Hotel to the car park where it was possible to book a taxi.
As I was walking towards the taxi counter I heard a voice calling out to me “brother James!”. I turned around and saw a smartly dressed Thai man in his early 30s. He told me that the International Office at Hope of Bangkok had sent him. We went back in to the Hotel and collected my suitcase, I checked out of the Hotel and the man brought me to his car (a ute, aka pick-up for my American friends) and we put my suitcase in the back and he introduced me to his wife who was waiting in the cab. He drove me to the church which was a couple of Soi off Rama IV Road.
Firstly they brought me to the International Office where there was a New Zeelander lady named Leigh who exclaimed “You're lucky we got you out of the Malaysia, it's the grottiest hotel in all of Bangkok!” (maybe she didn't know they had done the place up since the 70s). After that I put my suitcase in the church dormitory and went to the church service.
At the church service I was introduced to a Thai couple who had been living in Los Angeles and who translated everything for me (the man standing with the spotted tie and lady sitting next to him). After church they brought me out to the YMAC for fellowship and lunch.
So in this photo I (in the Yellow T-shirt) am with the people who were sitting at the same table for the lunch, next to me is YL Chan (the man in striped shirt) from Canberra, who six months later moved to Perth and became our pastor.
